About the organisation
Their vision is for Birmingham and Solihull to be the healthiest place to live and work, driving equity in life chances and health outcomes for everyone.
They have the biggest opportunity in a generation for the most radical overhaul in the way health and social care services in Birmingham and Solihull are designed and delivered.
Birmingham and Solihull Integrated Care System (BSOL) brings together local NHS, councils and voluntary community and faith sectors to better serve their residents. As set out in their 10 year Strategy for Health and Care they are working together to plan how they will transform health and social care services to meet the changing needs of local people. They are focussed on how best to encourage and support better health and well-being, and provide improved and sustainable health and care services, for the population of Birmingham and Solihull. They are considered one of the fastest improving systems on a range of measures, including work to tackle lengthy waiting times.
They support 1.36 million people, with more than 1.14 million people living in Birmingham and more than 217,000 in Solihull. The ICS is privileged to serve a globally diverse population but also one which has significant health needs and inequality. The fundamental purpose of the ICS is to improve the health of the people it serves. The core challenge for Birmingham and Solihull ICS is that too many people die before they should from causes that are potentially preventable and that too many people are living for too long in poor health, including many with long-term conditions, which could be improved by better management. These gaps exist within both local authority areas.
They serve a very diverse population, with complex health and care needs, comprising both rural and urban areas, extremes of affluence and deprivation, as well as significant health inequalities. Working with their partners, they have agreed an ambitious vision. They have a strong commitment from all their partners to make their vision a reality and to make a real difference to their residents and communities, by working together.
About the roles
They are seeking two Associate Non-Executive Directors (ANED); the first, a Quality ANED, will bring experience of clinical leadership and large-scale configuration; the second, a Community Engagement ANED, will bring experience of community engagement and partnership working gained in health or social care. A member of their Quality Committee, the Quality ANED will help ensure that as a system they provide the best possible services bringing support and challenge to the ICB. Your background could be at a senior level in any clinical area, in social care, or in a health or care regulatory environment. The Community Engagement ANED will be able to demonstrate professional expertise in the area of community engagement with a particular focus on providing insight into lived experiences from diverse ethnic, cultural, social and economic backgrounds, and from cultural groups and communities.
Both roles will be fully involved in all aspects of the Board’s work including as members of board committees, although they do not participate in any formal vote. The roles offer an opportunity to develop experience before being considered for a full NED position in the future.
All Board members are expected to champion diversity, inclusion, and equality for all. They value and promote diversity and inclusion and are committed to equality of opportunity for all. They believe that the best boards are those that reflect the communities they serve.
They prioritise Equality, Diversity and Inclusion, team health and wellbeing and the principles of kind leadership in making Birmingham and Solihull a great place to work.
Appointments will be made on merit after a fair and open process so that the best people, from the widest possible pool of candidates, are appointed.
