South Central Ambulance Service NHS Foundation is the public’s care navigator for urgent and emergency care across Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire, and most of Hampshire. They employ 4,600 staff who, together with over 1,000 volunteers, enable us to operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
The last few years have been the most difficult ever for ambulance services, the NHS, and the country as a whole. Whilst the immediate operational pressures of the pandemic are less apparent, the legacy effects of this period on services and people across their health sector remains very real.
They are proud of the steps they have taken to realise improvement and deliver tangibly better outcomes to those they serve. They have delivered on several quality priorities with a particular focus on patient safety and have increased investment and resources in key areas such as safeguarding and Freedom to Speak Up. However, there is much still to be done, and they recently committed to their Trust-wide Fit for the Future modernisation programme to generate sustainable, affordable, and efficient solutions for their staff, fleet, estates, coordination centres, and digital infrastructure. Integral to which will be embedding the cultural and behavioural changes owned by everyone in every role.
