About the Organisation - Outstanding Care Every Time
With over 9,000 dedicated staff caring for patients around the clock, St. George’s is the largest healthcare provider in South West London, and one of the biggest and busiest hospital Trusts in London. It provides services out of two main hospital sites, St George’s Hospital in Tooting and Queen Mary Hospital in Roehampton, as well as health centres, GP surgeries, schools, and people’s homes.
St George’s Hospital in Tooting is one of the country’s principal teaching hospitals, as well as being a leading research institution. One of London’s four major trauma centres, the Trust is also a leading children’s hospital as well as a major centre for cancer and neurosciences offering patients innovative new treatments such as the country’s first 24/7 mechanical thrombectomy service. The Trust provides these services to over 3.5 million people, whilst providing a wider range of acute and community services to 1.3 million people across South West London.
St George’s is now part of a new hospital group with the nearby Epsom and St Helier University Hospitals NHS Trust, promoting increased collaboration and innovation. Whilst both Trusts are still separate legal entities, they are committed to working together increasingly collaboratively sharing a Chairman and, since February 2022, have been led by a single Executive team. Several Trust Board committees now meet in common, and work is underway to develop a new strategy for the overall group. The Trust is also a key part of the South West London Integrated Care System and the South West London Acute Provider Collaborative, which have fostered a significant increase in partnership working to improve outcomes for local communities.
About the role
They are now looking for an experienced senior leader to join their board as a Non-Executive Director. With experience of working in large and complex organisations at or near Board level, they would especially welcome applications from those with commercial experience. They need someone who understands how to seek effective assurance as well as working as a collaborative member of the unitary Board in holding the Executive to account to ensure that they deliver outstanding care for those who use their services. They are especially keen to encourage candidates from underrepresented communities to apply.
Remuneration: £14,000 for on average 6 days a month, however the time commitment may vary, and a flexible approach should be taken.
