About the organisation
Herefordshire and Worcestershire Health and Care NHS Trust is the lead provider of mental health and learning disability services across both counties, delivering care and support to children, adults and older people. Services are offered in a range of settings, including community locations, clinics, inpatient wards and through specialist crisis provision.
In Worcestershire, the Trust also delivers a portfolio of physical health services for people of all ages. These include community nursing and therapy services, community hospitals and minor injury units, paediatric therapies, specialist dental services, stroke rehabilitation, dementia care and sexual health services.
With a workforce of around 5,000 staff, the Trust serves a population of more than 800,000 people across two of England’s largest counties by area. Herefordshire and Worcestershire encompass a diverse mix of urban centres, market towns and widely dispersed rural communities. Despite the significant geographic footprint, the counties have some of the smallest populations in the West Midlands, creating low population density and distinct challenges in delivering equitable, accessible and responsive services across such varied and rural landscapes.
About the roles
The Trust is recruiting two Non-executive Directors (NED) and an Associate NED. This is an exceptional opportunity to share your talents and expertise to make a positive difference to the lives of local people. You will need to have a genuine commitment to patients and the promotion of excellent health care services.
Applicants will have senior level experience in one of the following areas:
NED role 1: Recent, relevant finance experience gained in a large and complex organisation, with the capacity to Chair the Finance and Performance Committee.
NED role 2: People / HR background with change management / organisational development expertise gained at a strategic level, with the capacity to Chair the People and Culture Committee.
Associate NED: Experience gained in private, public, voluntary, community or charity sectors with experience of either workforce development, strategic planning, finance, risk, performance management or service development. A strong track record in partnership working across a range of stakeholders would also be advantageous.
Person specification
As a future NHS leader, successful candidates will be able to demonstrate that they meet the NHS leadership competency framework for board members (please see the candidate information pack below for the six domains). The competency domains are aligned to Our NHS People Promise, Our Leadership Way and the Seven Principles of Public Life (Nolan Principles).
The most effective boards are those that reflect the diversity of the workforce and the communities they serve. The Trust particularly welcomes applications from women, people from local Black, Asian and minority ethnic communities, and people with disabilities, who are currently under‑represented in these important roles.
