Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust - Chair

Closing Date: 21st April 2026

About the Organisation

Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (OUH) is one of the largest NHS teaching trusts in the country and a globally recognised centre of clinical, academic and research excellence. Serving a diverse population across Oxfordshire and the wider Thames Valley, the Trust provides both core hospital services and a wide range of highly specialised care across four hospitals in Oxford and Banbury, as well as through an extensive network of community services delivered from over 100 locations.

OUH’s longstanding partnership with the University of Oxford and its role within Oxford Academic Health Partners create a unique environment in which world‑leading research and education translate directly into outstanding patient care. More than 14,000 colleagues work across the Trust, delivering compassionate, high‑quality care while driving innovation, learning and continuous improvement.

You will be joining OUH at a pivotal point in its development. The Trust is shaping a new strategy for 2026–2031, building on its clinical, research and educational strengths while responding to the evolving needs of the population and the ambitions of the NHS 10 Year Plan. As the Trust works closely with the new Thames Valley Integrated Care Board from April 2026, there is a growing opportunity for OUH to take a leading role in the redesign and configuration of services, harnessing digital innovation and long‑term sustainability to serve its communities for generations to come.

OUH is committed to driving forward service integration and developing strong place‑based neighbourhood care. As Chair, there is a generational opportunity to help navigate the Trust through a changing operating environment, working collaboratively with partners across community and primary care to build integrated service models that improve quality, access and patient experience, while ensuring the continued delivery of consistently high‑quality core acute services.

As Chair, you will lead a large and complex organisation of national and international significance. Working in close partnership with the Chief Executive, you will chair an effective unitary Board, lead the Council of Governors and act as a visible and trusted ambassador for the Trust locally, regionally and nationally. You will help ensure the foundations are in place for OUH to be an effective and influential system partner, building confidence in the quality, safety, performance and future sustainability of services.

About the role

This role demands a confident and collaborative leader who can bring clarity of purpose, strong governance and a deep commitment to public service values, alongside the organisational development and transformational expertise needed to support the Trust through a significant period of change. If you share OUH’s commitment to compassionate excellence, value partnership and innovation and are energised by the opportunity to contribute to a stronger, more connected health system, we would be delighted to hear from you.

Strong local knowledge or connection to the communities served by the Trust would be welcomed.
