About the Organisation
South West London and St George’s Mental Health NHS Trust is seeking three outstanding individuals to join its Board, two as Non-Executive Directors and one as an Associate Non-Executive Director, at a pivotal moment in the organisation’s development. This is a rare opportunity to influence the future of a leading NHS provider that serves 1.2 million people across Kingston, Merton, Richmond, Sutton and Wandsworth, delivering vital mental health services to more than 20,000 individuals at any one time.
The Trust is recognised for its commitment to innovation, inclusion and excellence, supported by a dedicated workforce of around 2,900 staff across more than 120 teams. It has a strong track record in delivering high-quality care, currently rated ‘Good’ by the Care Quality Commission, with clear ambition to achieve ‘Outstanding’. Its mission, “Making Life Better Together,” is at the heart of everything it does and guides its transformation of services and continued investment in new facilities, research and partnerships.
About the roles
Two distinct Non-Executive roles are available. One appointment will chair the Audit Committee, requiring deep board-level experience within a complex and regulated environment, along with strong financial expertise, a recognised financial qualification and the ability to oversee governance, risk and assurance frameworks.
The second role calls for a senior clinical leader from a background in psychiatry, psychology or an allied health profession, who will strengthen the Board’s oversight of quality, patient safety, clinical effectiveness and patient experience.
For the Associate Non‑Executive Director, the Trust are seeking an individual who will bring deep expertise in Digital, Data and Technology, particularly Digital Transformation and AI background, alongside substantial healthcare leadership experience at Board or senior‑executive level. As an Associate Non-Executive Director role, this could be a developmental role for someone who has not yet gained board experience, and the Trust would be particularly keen to hear from individuals from under-represented groups and welcomes diverse perspectives that will enrich Board discussions and decision-making.
For all of the roles, successful candidates will bring sound judgement, strategic thinking and the confidence to challenge constructively while building strong relationships. A genuine commitment to tackling health inequalities, promoting inclusion and advancing compassionate leadership is essential. The Trust is particularly keen to hear from individuals from under-represented groups and welcomes diverse perspectives that will enrich Board discussions and decision-making.
This is an exceptional opportunity to contribute to a progressive, inclusive and ambitious organisation that is transforming mental health services and making a meaningful difference in people’s lives.
