Stockport NHS FT and Tameside & Glossop Integrated Care NHS FT: Non-Executive Directors x 3

Updated: Jan 22

Closing Date: 9am Monday 26 January 2026

Stockport NHS Foundation Trust and Tameside & Glossop Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust are recruiting three Joint Non-Executive Directors. Their Trusts have been working together in close partnership since 2020, with exceptional leadership from their Joint Chief Executive, Karen James OBE.  The appointment of their first Joint Chair, David Wakefield in April 2025 marked a critical development for their partnership, as they begin to bring their Boards and governance together, and are developing a shared strategic vision for the benefit of their staff and the communities they serve.

About the Organisations

Their partnership is driven by their shared commitment to enhancing patient care and population health, improving outcomes, reducing inequalities, and ensuring the sustainability of services for the benefit of their patients and communities.

Stockport NHS Foundation Trust delivers acute hospital services and community care across the Stockport locality of Greater Manchester and its surrounds. With an annual budget of £514m and 6,610 staff, their latest CQC rating was “Requires Improvement” overall, with a rating of “Good” in the Caring domain, and they continue to make progress in their transformation journey. Tameside & Glossop Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust also provides acute and community services, supporting around 250,000 patients working across ICBs in both Greater Manchester and neighbouring Derbyshire. With an annual budget of £375m and 5,033 staff, they have a CQC rating of “Good” overall.

About the Roles

They are looking for three Non-Executive Directors for their new Joint Board. As a Non-Executive Director, you will provide independent oversight, constructive challenge, and strategic guidance to the Board. You will bring alignment with their vision, values, and long-term strategy, whilst offering a fresh perspective within their decision-making and the ability to hold their organisations to account for performance and quality.

The Person

In these appointments, they are seeking exceptional strategic leaders with a strong track record of success in one or more of the following areas: Digital, Innovation & Transformation, Strategic Partnerships & Change Management, and Commercial & Business Acumen. These roles require individuals with board level or equivalent experience gained in complex, changing, and multi-stakeholder environments either in the public, private or third sector.  Whilst previous Non-Executive Director experience is not essential, significant leadership at scale will allow you to quickly engage in strategic thinking and development for their organisations.

Your focus on equality, diversity, and inclusion will be critical, and you will share their ambition and hold the interests of their patients and the wellbeing of their staff and communities at the heart of your leadership.

They are keen to attract candidates who can bring diverse perspectives, and they welcome expressions of interest from the widest possible range of backgrounds, particularly those who are under-represented at board level in the NHS.
