About the Organisation
Cambridge University Hospitals (CUH) is an internationally renowned healthcare organisation. With around 13,000 staff, CUH serves a local population of half a million people, as well as specialist services across the country. Based in Europe’s largest life sciences hub, CUH is committed to improving patient outcomes, driving innovation and economic growth. They are passionate about caring for patients and improving lives across their community, while investing in the training of skilled staff who will care for patients tomorrow. They are now seeking someone with experience of clinical leadership in the NHS to join their Board as a Non-Executive Director.
This is an important time to join CUH. The NHS is undergoing a major reset with a new 10-year plan, prompting a review of their corporate strategy to address key priorities amid rising demand, long wait times, and financial pressures. Their revised strategy will align with national goals to shift care from hospitals to the community, embrace digital solutions, and focus on prevention. They are advancing plans for two new hospitals, Cambridge Cancer Research Hospital and Cambridge Children’s Hospital, while also developing new models of care and long-term redevelopment of their estate.
About the role
This Non-Executive Director role offers an exciting opportunity to bring your clinical insight and patient-focused values to the strategic leadership of the Trust. You will help shape strategy, support high-quality care, and ensure effective oversight; your clinical experience will be key in challenging and guiding decisions with a focus on patient outcomes and safety. This role is ideal for a healthcare leader looking to influence care at system level and help shape the future of a forward-looking and ambitious organisation.
They are seeking a senior leader with substantial NHS experience and board-level insight, who understands provider organisations, patient pathways, and integrated care systems. You will bring strong strategic, analytical, and communication skills to drive transformation, champion equality, and ensure high-quality, safe care. Confident in complex systems, you will influence senior stakeholders and foster inclusive, compassionate cultures, and will have a proven track record of improvement, long-term change, and collaborative leadership. They particularly welcome candidates with a personal connection to the local area, whether through living in Cambridgeshire, using CUH services, or understanding the local health landscape; they also welcome applicants from outside the region who share their values and vision.
