Seacole Trailblazers: The Young NEDs Programme

The Trailblazer programme was designed to expand the diverse voices of minority groups in the health service to include the valueable, and often less heard, voice of the young.

Our aspiration from the Trailblazer programme is to ultimately create a formal and normalised non executive roles for young people on public boards. The Young NED role would offer a platform for the voice of the young minority whose objective would be to to shape decision making effecting services for young people and shape future services that young would receive as they mature.

The Trailblazer programme is still early in its journey.

We have successfully run a small pilot of four young minds aged between 18-25. While the programme offered our Trailblazers insight in to the world of executive boards and the mechanism of corporate governance, it also gave exposure to the wider Seacole Group and the diverse range of board level discussions - anything from health inequalities through to workforce issues and Covid Strategy.

The programme gives our Trailblazers the opportunity to shape the agenda and approach of the programme. Giving freedom to discuss the big issues that matter to them, actively develop thinking in areas they would like to make an impact in and actively speak at the wider Seacole NED forum.

The first cohort did some amazing things;

  • Including a massive survey of young people on views and perceptions on the new Covid vaccination,

  • The impact of social media in the health and well being of young people, inequalities in recruitment for minorities in public service and much more.

Please see the links below to see and hear from our amazing pilot programme.

This is not a structured managed programme but a platform to encourage young voices to speak up and be heard. If you are interested in joining the next cohort please contact seacolegroup@gmail.com.

New cohorts are selected from Q1 of the calendar year.
