Rated ‘Good’ by the CQC and Ofsted, North West Ambulance Service NHS Trust provides 24 hour, 365 days a year Urgent and Emergency Care to those in need of immediate medical treatment, and where necessary, transport to the most appropriate receiving hospital/centre. As the geographically largest Ambulance Service in the UK, their 8000 staff and volunteers in over 300 different roles serve a population of more than 7.5 million people across Cumbria, Lancashire, Greater Manchester, Merseyside, Cheshire, and part of Derbyshire. Each year they receive approximately 1.4 million 999 calls, respond to just under 1 million emergency incidents, and make more than 1.4 million patient transport journeys for those who require non-emergency transport to and from healthcare appointments. They also deliver the NHS 111 service across the region for people who need medical help or advice, handling around 1.7 million calls every year.


About the role

They are seeking a values-driven Non-Executive Director to join their engaged and dynamic Board, led by their newly appointed Chair, Julia Mulligan. This is an exciting opportunity to help shape the future of urgent, emergency, and planned care across the North West. As a Non-Executive Director, you will uphold the highest standards of integrity and corporate governance, provide independent challenge and support, and bring a strong commitment to equality, diversity, and inclusion.


They are seeking an inclusive and independent board level leader to Chair the Audit Committee, with recent, relevant financial experience and strong governance expertise.  A clear communicator, you will quickly build credibility through your proven track record gained in complex organisational settings in either the public or private sector.  Bringing both strategic and analytical skills with experience of assurance through robust controls and risk management systems, your genuine commitment to high quality patient care and understanding of their diverse communities will be evident.  This is an exceptional opportunity for you to positively impact on the experience, wellbeing and outcomes of their patients, staff, stakeholders and communities.

Remuneration: £13,000 per annum (additional £2,000pa for Audit Chair duties)
